Today is my first day working as an Intern for Stony Creek Brands. I shadowed Victor Torres, the IT Head (and my supervisor) for the day, and learned many things.
To start off the day, I had to sign a variety of paperwork, as well as get my drivers lisence and scocial security card verified. I also had my checking account linked so that the company can make direct deposits into my account when paying periods come around bi-weekly.
On my first day, the voice mail system crashed, and since it is a seasonal - heavy company, the first week of December was not a good time to have this happen. We had to scramble around for most of the day as we tried to address the issue with the voice mail system, as well as handle a variety of issues.
Victor showed me how to log into the sytems with my account, gave me a StonyCreekBrands email address, and showed me how to fix many of the issues that happen on a regular basis.
In one case, one of the packaging employees had trouble with the printer communicating with her computer, and Victor had his hands full, so I gave troubleshooting that a try. I was able to delete and re-install the printer, which is used specifically for packaging labels, but needed victor's assistance for him to show me how the printer also communicated with another server.
On my first day, there were many issues with printing for some reason. That may be because of the high volume of printing due to the holiday season - but it seems to be a common issue as far as IT concerns go. I will report back with more - but my first day was definately a busy one!
